Day 3

Well, we had big plans for today. Some seriously touring. Well I was sick all night (was it the clams, the snails or the carmel crepe?). There was no way I was going to travel too far from our hotel room.  But I still had this view.

I told Jeff and Kendra to gather up their bathing suits and go to Aquaboulevard-an indoor waterpark.

They got back just after noon and i was tired, but had taken enough Pepto and Immodium that I was ok to go out. Let's see if we could salvage this day.

We got on the Metro at Chausee d'Antin La Fayette and headed out to Pere Lachaise "Cemetery". It was nice to walk around in a quiet place for a while.

Of course, crowds around James Morrison's grave.

Enjoying a little tulip garden.

Entrance to Pere Lachaise.

Back on the Metro to the hotel. And then back to the Metro to dinner. (It was so easy to travel around the city this way). We had read about a restaurant called "Tavern of the Sergent Recruiter" on Ille St. Louis, and decided to try it out.  Before heading out I asked the concierge if it was appropriate for kids "ABSOLUTELY".

As you can see from the wine bottle, the place has a certain sense of humor.  The story is that the Sergent Recruiter of Napoleon's army would invite young men for dinner and drinks, get them drunk and full, then convince them to "sign up".

The sign on the door said that they didnt open until 7pm, and we were a little early but they were extremely friendly and showed us to our table. (the place was completely empty, but not for long).

First they brought the appetizer, bread, "salad" and soup (oh, and all we could drink wine).

Yes, that is a basket of about 8 different kinds of sausages (with a cutting board and a knife). A basket of vegetables (whole tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, a head of lettuce, a fennel, whole carrots). The white stuff in the the bottle is salad dressing. A piece of pate', little bowl of pickles (pickles with every meal), and a tureen of vegetable soup. DIG IN.

For our main course: Jeff had the duck, I had beef bourguignon, Kendra had leg of lamb.

Then came the cheese course. Goat, Camembert, Brie, Chevre. Mmmm. Oh, and more Baguette.

A beautiful night to walk back to the Metro as the sun set over the Seine and Ille St. Louis. There was even a guy playing accordian on the bridge.

Jeff enjoyed these posters. It says "Wall Street Institute. Speak Wall Street English".
